“These collages were made for a zine that was part of a Social Archive project. My work is a representation of an Afrocentric Hair and Beauty salon centre, known as Peckham Psalms. Which came about due to the redevelopment of Peckham Rye Square. I was inspired by the level of hospitality they give as well as their authentic appearance. For example, all the women that work there have their own names above their salons, designed based on their cultural background and inspirations, which I found to be a form of female empowerment within the black community.”
