Adrenaline Junkie

Norman Rea Gallery is excited to announce the third exhibition of our 2024/25 programme ‘Adrenaline Junkie: Exploring Horror Through Art and Digesting the Abject.’ The exhibition will run from 5th of February 2025 till 21st of February 2025.

Horror has been historically read as gratuitously graphic and accused of inciting moral corruption due to its expletive and direct nature. It is stigmatised and viewed as anti-culture despite its very conception being in reaction to culture and current affairs. It reveals far more about society than people give it credit for. ‘Adrenaline Junkie’ aims to dispel the idea that horror is a perverse and sadistic genre, with its ultimate goal to destigmatize horror and augment its esteem in the public eye. It looks at horror and fear as productive to political and sociological causes, and takes into account its capacity for pleasure; there is humanity in our fascination with the grotesque as well as our morbid curiosities.

The opening night for ‘Adrenaline Junkie’ will take place on Wednesday 5th February from 18:30 - 21:00, with live music, a free drink upon entry, and an afterparty after the event.

In addition to the exhibition, the Norman Rea will run a rich programme of events and workshops, further drawing upon the themes raised within the artworks displayed.
